BIG HEART: Gabi Hollows, Miguel del Valle and NSW Education Minister, Rob Stokes. "The endless ideas...of young people continues to inspire me," Ms Hollows said.
“Selfless, thoughtful and caring” is how teacher Bernadette Fenech-Soler describes her student Miguel del Valle.
Miguel, of Mary Immaculate Primary School in Quakers Hill, is one of 176 students from around the state recognised for his compassion, integrity and kindness.
His caring attitude was awarded at a ceremony for the Fred Hollows Humanity Award at Parliament House last week.
“I felt happy and excited when I found out I won an award,” Miguel said.
A national initiative of The Fred Hollows Foundation, the Humanity Award acknowledges Year 6 pupils who follow in Fred’s footsteps by demonstrating humanitarian values towards others.
Miguel was nominated by his teacher, Ms Fenech-Soler, for always helping others in need, showing respect to teachers, and undertaking many responsibilities within the school.
“Miguel is selfless, thoughtful and caring,” Ms Fenech-Soler said. “He is a great role model and helper to younger students and the wider community.”

β¨π Congratulations to our wonderful students who have received the Sacrament of Confirmation over the past few weeks! This milestone is not just a celebration of what has been, but an invitation to step into the world with courage, guided by the Holy Spirit. In a world that sometimes feels uncertain, our young people remind us that faith can be lived authentically through kindness, justice, and compassion. May their Confirmation inspire all of us to reflect: How do we allow the Spirit to shape our choices, our relationships, and our hope for the future? We are so proud of our students and grateful to walk this journey of faith with them. πποΈ15 Aug 2025

ππ Today we celebrate the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary β the belief that Mary, at the end of her earthly life, was taken body and soul into heaven.ππ Often we focus on this as a moment of honour for Mary, recognising her closeness to God. But perhaps there is another perspective to consider: the Assumption is also a sign of what God desires for each of us. Maryβs life reminds us that our bodies and our lives matter β that Godβs love is not only for our souls, but for the whole of who we are. In a world that can sometimes separate the spiritual from the everyday, Maryβs Assumption tells us that the ordinary parts of life β our work, relationships, struggles, and joys β are all caught up in Godβs plan for wholeness and resurrection. Itβs a celebration not just of Maryβs story, but of the hope that is promised to us all. π14 Aug 2025

Fatherβs Day is fast approaching, and we canβt wait to welcome our special visitors on site! π This year, our Fatherβs Day celebrations coincide with Jersey Day, inspired by the legacy of Nathan Gremmo, a young man whose organ donation saved the lives of others. As a Catholic community, we honour this call to give the gift of life, reflecting Jesusβ teaching to love and serve others. Students may wear their sports uniform with their favourite team jersey over the top in support of the Donate Life campaign. πβ½π06 Aug 2025

β¨ The Transfiguration of the Lord β¨ Today, our students explored the powerful Gospel story of the Transfigurationβa moment where Jesus is revealed in dazzling glory alongside Moses and Elijah, and a voice from the heavens proclaims, βThis is my Son, whom I loveβ¦ listen to Him!β At first glance, itβs a dramatic display of divine power and mystery. But through a post-critical lens, our students and staff have begun to wonder: what if the most important part of this story isn't the shining clothes or heavenly voicesβ¦ but the quiet, human response? After the light fades and the cloud disappears, Jesus gently touches His friends and says, βDo not be afraid.β In a world where children are often overwhelmed by expectations, noise, and uncertainty, this story reminds us that divine moments arenβt just about grand revelationsβbut about being present, comforting, and steadfast when others are afraid. π¬ What if the Transfiguration is less about changing Jesus and more about changing the disciples? π¬ What if it invites us to see the divine in each other, especially in times of fear, doubt or silence? As a community, we are being invited to listenβnot just to loud voices or shining momentsβbut to the whisper of God in everyday life. ποΈ "This text speaks to us of a world in which... God is revealed in both glory and gentleness."01 Aug 2025
