Ms Michelle Rowland MP with students at St Mark's College
Federal Member for Greenway, Michelle Rowland MP visited a number of schools in the Diocese of Parramatta to celebrate Catholic Schools Week.
Ms Rowland joined with parents and teachers throughout the week to watch student performances at St Mark's College, Stanhope Gardens, St Anthony's Primary School, Girraween, Our Lady of Lourdes Primary School, Seven Hills and Mary Immaculate Primary, Quakers Hill.
St Mark’s student, Cathy Hwang ‘mentored’ Ms Roland in art as part of their cultural and performing arts program, and she joined in as a percussionist alongside the senior music ensemble.
Ms Rowland says the opportunity to meet students, teachers and parents is one of the best things about her job. ‘As a former Catholic school student I am honoured to have joined local residents in recognising the strength and spirit of Catholic Schools in the Greenway community,’ said Ms Rowland. ‘The schools in my electorate are fantastic nurseries for young minds that give our children the opportunity to become the young man or woman they want to be,’ she said. ‘I have always been a strong believer in the enabling power of education.’
‘It enables our children to enter a world full of promise and opportunity and it enables our children to thrive and grow, it is in fact the greatest enabler we have.’
Catholic Schools Week aims to celebrate and strengthen relationships with the wider community and showcase what is happening in Catholic schools every day.

💙💙 Today we celebrate the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary — the belief that Mary, at the end of her earthly life, was taken body and soul into heaven.💙💙 Often we focus on this as a moment of honour for Mary, recognising her closeness to God. But perhaps there is another perspective to consider: the Assumption is also a sign of what God desires for each of us. Mary’s life reminds us that our bodies and our lives matter — that God’s love is not only for our souls, but for the whole of who we are. ✨ The Transfiguration of the Lord ✨ Today, our students explored the powerful Gospel story of the Transfiguration—a moment where Jesus is revealed in dazzling glory alongside Moses and Elijah, and a voice from the heavens proclaims, “This is my Son, whom I love… listen to Him!” At first glance, it’s a dramatic display of divine power and mystery. But through a post-critical lens, our students and staff have begun to wonder: what if the most important part of this story isn't the shining clothes or heavenly voices… but the quiet, human response? After the light fades and the cloud disappears, Jesus gently touches His friends and says, “Do not be afraid.” In a world where children are often overwhelmed by expectations, noise, and uncertainty, this story reminds us that divine moments aren’t just about grand revelations—but about being present, comforting, and steadfast when others are afraid. 💬 What if the Transfiguration is less about changing Jesus and more about changing the disciples? 💬 What if it invites us to see the divine in each other, especially in times of fear, doubt or silence? Today our Year 1 students visited the Church to learn more about the Sacrament of Baptism and how we are initiated into the Church family. We were blessed to have Mr Saliba and Fr Stefan OFM Conv (visiting from Italy!) guide the session. The highlight for the children was a Baptism reenactment, where they experienced the symbols and rituals that welcome us into God’s family.

Carlo, a millennial who loved the Eucharist and technology, and Pier Giorgio, who lived the Beatitudes by serving the poor, show us that holiness can be lived in everyday life. ✨ Staff Spirituality Day ✨ Today our staff stepped into a different way of engaging with Scripture through biblical micrography. Using the passage “You are the salt of the earth… You are the light of the world” (Matthew 5:13–16), we created artwork formed entirely from the text itself. This was not just an art activity, it was an invitation to reflect deeply. What does it mean for us, in 2025, to be salt and light in our school, parish, and wider world? Rather than simply repeating what we already know, we asked new questions: 🌍 How can our Catholic tradition speak into today’s challenges? 💡 What fresh insights emerge when Scripture and creativity meet? 🤝 How do we carry our faith into real action for others? In shaping these images, we also reshaped our own understanding, discovering together how the Word continues to illuminate our path and call us forward as a community of faith.

Today we began our Father’s Day celebrations with a beautiful Mass, led by Father Jonathon Thank you to Mrs George and the Year 2 team for the preparation of the this celebration. Our Year 2 children brought smiles (and a few happy tears!) with their heartfelt thanksgiving song, a special moment that reminded us just how important fathers, grandfathers, and role models are in our children’s lives.
